TRADITIONAL PRACTICES

Embrace the power of ancestral healing

My extensive training and experience with traditional Mexican midwives and graduating from a traditional midwifery school in Oaxaca, Mexico, has equipped me with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the traditional practices I offer. I have integrated the invaluable teachings of Mexican indigenous traditional midwives with my practice with utmost respect, and humility.

Rooted in ancestral wisdom and thus evidenced based due to thousands of years of knowledge, these practices provide nurturing and holistic support throughout the transformative stages of a woman’s life.

  • My passion for herbal medicine stems from my studies with indigenous and Mexican midwives and healers in Oaxaca. I continued my herbal studies at Bastyr University with a Master’s of Midwifery program and a local herbal medicine school in Los Angeles. With a commitment to offering effective and nourishing modalities, I incorporate herbal medicine into my practice, harnessing the power of nature to support overall well-being and address individual needs.

  • The versatile rebozo, a traditional Mexican shawl, is incorporated in my reproductive health practice. The rebozo serves multiple purposes, including fetal positioning, pain relief, muscle relaxation, pelvis mobilization, stability, and encouraging optimal positioning of the baby. It is an integral tool in my practice, honoring its significance in Mexican culture and the wisdom passed down by traditional midwives.

  • I offer a non-denominational prenatal ceremony that celebrates the journey of pregnancy and birth. Influenced by Zapotec tradition, this ceremony honors the baby's life, pays tribute to mothers and ancestors, marks a significant transition for the family, and encourages a slower, more joyful approach to urban pregnancies.

  • Vaginal steaming is a centuries-old practice used by healers and midwives worldwide. This involves sitting over a pot of steaming herbal brew to support various reproductive health concerns. Vaginal steams can be beneficial for issues such as infertility, menstrual pains, postpartum recovery, post-miscarriage or post-surgery healing, and addressing imbalances. This service is provided in the comfort of your own home, respecting the healing traditions associated with herbal steaming.

  • The postpartum herbal steam treatment combines herbal steam, full body massage, and the “Cerrada”, (closing) using the rebozo to support the physical, energetic, and emotional well-being of mothers during the postpartum period. It is healing, nurturing and luxurious for the deserving mother in her home. It helps with inflammation, pain, bruising, bleeding, stress and supports relaxation, lactation, nervous system, body alignment, the movement of energy and the return of warmth in the pelvis. It is available for post vaginal or cesarean birth.
